As a candidate for Maryland’s Montgomery County City Council, sports radio host Steve Solomon is serious about a potential tenure in politics according to The Washington Post.
“I see the great things about living in this county, but I’ve also seen some of the issues,” Solomon said at a campaign event earlier this year. “I thought, I have a pretty sensible head on my shoulders, I’m a moderate thinker, I could do good. Why not me? This isn’t brain surgery.”
Solomon officially registered as a candidate last November and informed his radio peer, friend of over 20 years and afternoon drive host of The Team 980 in D.C., Steve Czaban.
“I was floored,” Czaban told The Washington Post. “Here’s a guy who wouldn’t even invite me to his house, and he was putting himself out there in a way that I was impressed by. He was making a serious run at it.”
Solomon, a 17-year radio veteran, pulls double duty each weekday, hosting the morning show for SB Nation Radio while also serving as producer and contributor to Czaban’s afternoon show on The Team 980. The lifelong Montgomery County resident points to his radio work ethic as a reason why he can succeed in politics.
“I’m not the most eloquent radio personality, but I work harder than anyone,” Solomon said. “I’m the last one to leave, I spend 70 hours a week at the station doing two shows. I’m honest. When I get a chance to be on the air, I say what I feel and what I think.”
Solomon finds himself in a crowded race during his first political run. 38 candidates are vying for four at-large seats on the Montgomery City Council with the primary election being held Tuesday June 26th.
