Former linebacker who played for the University of South Florida from 2009-12, Sam Barrington will join the Bulls’ radio broadcast as color analyst for the upcoming season.
He will partner with play-by-play announcer Jim Louk in the booth. Louk has been the radio voice of USF football since the program’s inaugural season in 1996.
Barrington will replace Mark Robinson who retired from the USF color analyst position after sitting next to Louk on the radio call for 21 years.
Barrington retired from the NFL after spending last season on IR to end a five-year career, but looks forward to the next phase of his life. “Beyond excited to be in the booth with Jim Louk and others covering USF Football for the 2018 season and beyond! Can’t thank you guys enough! This is FAMILY,” Barrington wrote on Twitter.
“I think Bulls fans will be very excited to have the voice of such a respected and well-loved former member of our program join our weekly game broadcasts and radio show. Sam brings not only a wealth of football knowledge but great insight and perspective on our program, and we are excited to welcome him back to the team,” said new USF vice president of athletics Michael Kelly via the press release.
Joining Barrington and Louk on the radio broadcast will be sideline reporter Joey Johnston who returns for his second season with USF. 1040-AM afternoon drive sports talk host, Rock Riley, will host the pre- and post-game shows with Jim Lighthall and Derek Sharp.
USF begins their football season September 1st with a home game against Elon.
