“You’re never going to catch me tweeting, I promise you,” said Mike Francesa back in 2012. This has to be one statement that even Francesa would admit was incorrect as he’s up late at night tweeting to his 88.5k followers. Not only does the iconic radio host tweet thoughts about the local sports teams, but he also interacts with followers, posts videos, and announces career updates, including information about life after FAN again.
The Mike’s On app is scheduled to debut August 24th, which Francesa announced on Twitter earlier this summer. This week Francesa conducted a video Q&A from Twitter’s NYC headquarters, and his app became one of the featured topics due to it being less than two weeks away from launching.
“It’s going to be me on it all the time. It eventually will be my broadcast home. I will be on it, I will be on it all the time, I will be on it at crazy hours, I might be on it at 7 in the morning and I might be on it at 2am after a big game. So yes, I will be on the app all the time. I promise you, you’ll get sick of me I’ll be on the app so long,” said Mike in a Twitter video
“It eventually will be my broadcast home,” is a statement that makes the success of his new app worth watching. Francesa plans to integrate the app into listeners’ regular consuming habits over the course of the next two years which will better prepare him for leaving WFAN for a second time.
After Mike attempted to launch a similar concept in 2012 with the “Audio Roadshow App” Francesa is much more committed to a social media presence and remaining active on his new app today than he was with the first go-around. The plan with the Audio Roadshow App was to interact with fans outside of the show, but no comments or videos outside of WFAN were ever posted on the app.
If Mike views his current tenure at WFAN as a holding tank until he’s ready to make Mike’s On his exclusive home, showing a commitment to the app and social media in general is something he needs to continue doing.
Along with offering a live simulcast of his WFAN show, the Mike’s On app will be the exclusive home for Francesa’s Sunday morning NFL program. Highlights from Francesa’s 30-year WFAN career will be featured on the app, along with new audio and video content from Mike and potentially other voices.
