Following an eighty-eight day stay in the hospital, SportsRadio 94WIP’s Big Daddy Graham announced he was returning home on Wednesday.
This past July, Graham experienced “major trauma” forcing the 66-year old to need emergency surgery. The trauma, according to his daughter Ava, was not caused by a fall or an accident, “it just happened.” Graham returns home from Magee Rehabilitation Hospital, still paralyzed from the waist down and will likely never be able to walk again.
“I’m glad to be going home, but not completely,” Graham told The Philadelphia Inquirer. “There’s enough people down here telling me miracle stories. But they’re telling me miracle stories because apparently, that’s what it’s going to take for me to walk again.”
In recent years, Graham has encountered a number of health issues and continued returning to work – major back surgery, throat cancer, a staph infection, even a hospital stay after hiccupping for 41 consecutive hours. Although he remains confined to a wheelchair and in need of assistance from his wife Debbie, Graham is ready to begin hosting on WIP again.
According to The Philadelphia Inquirer, the longtime sports radio host will soon return to his overnight timeslot, conducting the show from his bedroom. Graham, a comedian, author, actor, and recording artist in addition to his sports radio career, has a book coming out with his WIP colleague Glen Macnow. A revised edition of The Great Book of Philadelphia Sports Lists is scheduled for release later this month, October 29th.
