Prior to the Bills playoff game against the Houston Texans a couple of weeks ago, Baltimore radio host Jerry Coleman called Buffalo a “city of losers.” The insult by Coleman of 105.7 The Fan, eventually brought the radio host to tears after Bills’ fan responded with generosity.
Bills Mafia teamed up to donate over $7,000 to the Alzheimer’s Association, a disease Coleman’s mother suffers from.
Two weeks ago, ESPN’s Trey Wingo listed candidates for coach of the year. Del Reid and other members of Bills Mafia, an organized group of die-hard fans, wanted to know why their coach Sean McDermott wasn’t listed. Coleman saw the tweets and decided to call out Bills’ fans and their city.
While some Bills’ fans attempted to get into a war of insults with Coleman, Reid instead decided to rally the group and donate money to a charity in an act of kindness. Coleman has a pinned tweet on his social media account asking people to donate to the Alzheimer’s Association to help find a cure for the disease that affects his mother and many others.
The donations filed in, totaling more than $7,000 in Coleman’s name. During his Wednesday morning show, Coleman said he received a stack of mail filled with receipts from Bills fans who donated to the Alzheimer’s Association.
“I’m looking, and it’s not only, wow, Western New York, northeastern New York, Chicago. There’s one from Massachusetts, the Cincinnati chapter. All right, go ahead, I’m gonna lose it,” an overwhelmed Coleman said on-air.
It’s not the first time Bills Mafia rallied together with donations for a good cause. After the Cincinnati Bengals ended the Ravens 2017 season and sent Buffalo to the playoffs, Bills’ fans raised over $450,000 for Andy Dalton’s charity as a thank you.
Coleman co-hosts 105.7 The Fan’s Big Bad Morning Show every weekday from 6 – 10am
