He was one of the best players on their 2010 World Series winning team, but the San Francisco Giants told Aubrey Huff he’s not welcome at their 10-year reunion celebration later this season. Tuesday morning, Huff joined the Bay Area’s 95.7 The Game to discuss the Giants decision, but it took just eight minutes for the morning show to hang up on him.
Joe, Lo and Dibbs, featuring Joe Fortenbaugh, former All-Pro fullback Lorenzo Neal and Jim Kozimor who was filling in for Dan Dibley, welcomed Huff to the show with an open mind, offering him the opportunity to share his point of view.
The former Major Leaguer has become a polarizing figure in retirement, largely due to his activity on social media. Beyond his political views, Huff has shared numerous offensive opinions on Twitter, some of which he refers to as “satire.”
Huff’s offensive behavior includes his infamous tweet about kidnapping Iranian women.
“Let’s get a flight over and kidnap about 10 each. We can bring them back here as they fan us and feed us grapes, amongst other things,” he wrote earlier this year.
When Fortenbaugh asked if he regrets the tweet, Huff said he only regrets saying “kidnap” and excused the decision because he hadn’t had his morning coffee yet.
While many people in baseball celebrated Alyssa Nakken becoming the first female full-time coach in MLB history last month with the Giants, Huff spoke out against the hire and doubled down on his opinion Tuesday morning.
“There’s so many more people, especially men who grind it out who deserve that spot more than she does. But I also don’t believe that men belong in women’s college sports or sports in general, either.”
“Why would they want to be? I wouldn’t want to coach women in sports.” Huff said while laughing. “Women are tough enough to deal with anyway.”
It was the final straw for Fortenbaugh and the 95.7 The Game morning show.
“Aubrey, do you really think right now is the time to make that joke?” Fortenbaugh asked.
“Hey man, you guys have me on, this is how I joke. You don’t like it? You don’t have to interview me,” Huff answered.
Shortly after, a disgusted Fortenbaugh said he regretted bringing Huff onto the show and hung up on him before the former Giant could reply, ending the interview after eight minutes.
