As the NFL inches closer to a return, so too has one of its retired Hall of Famers. 46 year old Terrell Owens recently released a video of himself racing Kansas City Chief speedster Tyreek Hill (26). After the race, Owens had a message for Chiefs’ head coach Andy Reid.
“Andy Reid, trust me now. If you get in trouble, I’ve been social distancing. I’ve got my mask on, but if you ready, it will be mask off,” TO said while not wearing a mask. “Bring me to Kansas City. You know me. Rick Burkholder, you know me. I’m ready. Go Chiefs.”
Media pundits seem to enjoy Owens’ flamboyant personality, but are split on whether T.O. can still play.
“How do you not love T.O.?” Good Morning Football host Jane Slater asks. “I’ve gone on record saying he is one of my favorite players. I love everything about this dude… He has found a new generation of fans.”
GMFB panelist Peter Schraeger says that he believes Owens, who last stepped on a football field in 2012, can still play at age 46.
“I think everyone is having a good time with this,” Schraeger said. “We need more competitions like this… I’m very impressed by T.O. He is a Hall-of-Famer and yes, if anybody can bring him back into the league, it’s Andy Reid. I would love to see Andy Reid and T.O. embrace one more time.”
Former NFL player Michael Robinson disagrees.
“Man, hell no. T.O. ain’t playing no more football,” Robinson said. “It looks good. The race looks good. I think he looks great to be his age. He’s a Hall-of-Famer. One of the best to ever do it, but right now? No. Andy Reid, don’t sign Terrell Owens.”
Emmanuel Acho and Marcellus Wiley also discussed Owens on Speak for Yourself.
“I was looking at it and at first I thought absolutely not. He is not going anywhere near the Chiefs,” Acho said. “But then I dug a little deeper. His former team, the Philadelphia Eagles? Remember the end of last season? They rolled out practice squad guys like Deontay Burnett and JJ Arcega-Whiteside. But most importantly, who led the Eagles at the receiver’s position last December? A guy by the name of Greg Ward who played quarterback in college. So T.O. in Kansas City? Nah. But he might sneak into a place like the Eagles.”
Wiley counters that Owens could start for multiple teams, a response that Owens himself retweeted from his personal account.
“Let me answer the question correctly. Yes, he can still play in the NFL and yes, he could start for multiple teams, not talking about just the Eagles.” Wiley said. “You don’t have to put him in a place where he is familiar or been there before, so you can welcome the old man into the building. I say take him somewhere he has never been like the Colts, Giants or Jets. None of their guys (receivers) were even close to a thousand yards. Are you telling me Terrell Owens could not be one of those guys in a three, four or five receiver set? We just saw him go out there and only lose to Cheetah (Hill) by a step and half at the age of 46. The NFL, y’all slept on my boy for a decade. It’s time to put him back in the league.”
