Seattle sports radio got a shake-up over the past couple of weeks, leading to a new morning show on 710 ESPN Seattle. The Mike Salk Show is taking over for Danny & Gallant, and the fresh program closed their first hour with a Q&A for new host Mike Salk.
Salk’s name headlines the show, but he was adamant that it won’t just be four hours of him dominating the microphone.
“It won’t be four hours of just me,” Salk said during the first hour of the debut episode. “I don’t want that, you don’t want, nobody wants that. You’ve already met Justin [Barnes], you’ve met Maura [Dooley]. You’ll hear their voices every day on this show, and there will be a lot of others. We know Pete Carroll is joining us every day after the games during the season.”
Barnes is a newcomer to 710, but the executive producer of The Mike Salk Show is a Seattle radio veteran. Dooley recently crossed the half-decade mark at the station and frequently contributes to 710’s fantasy football content.
“We’re excited and fortunate to be able to add such a talented host back into our daily lineup,” 710 ESPN Seattle Program Director Kyle Brown said in a press release. “Mike is a passionate, opinionated broadcaster with long-standing connections to Seattle’s teams and fans. With daily appearances from Brock Huard and John Clayton and weekly interviews with Pete Carroll, Matt Hasselbeck, and Jerry Dipoto, this show will be a can’t-miss destination for sports fans in the region.”
Headline guests arriving from outside the station regularly include Mariners general manager Jerry Dipoto, Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll, and former NFL quarterbacks Brock Huard and Matt Hasselbeck.
“I am thrilled to have Mike Salk on the air in morning drive,” said Cathy Cangiano, SVP/Market Manager for Bonneville Seattle. “Mike’s knowledge, experience, and local relationships will no doubt provide the Pacific Northwest sports community an entertaining and insightful show every morning.”
Salk is still hosting his Brock & Salk podcast along with the new gig. The station is also adding an hour to Jake & Stacy, which now airs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. local time.
