The Tennessee Titans and Buffalo Bills played an exciting back-and-forth game on Monday night. The First Things First crew on FS1 aptly hammered the matchup all morning long, but one of the hosts made a massive mistake while discussing the game-deciding play.
FS1 analyst Chris Broussard not only mislabeled Bills left tackle Dion Dawkins as a backup Titans tackle, but he also formed his whole argument as to why the Bills lost around Lewan not being available for…the Bills.
“Yes, Josh Allen slipped,” Broussard said to begin his incorrect analysis. “But it got blown up on the left side because of the pressure of Tennessee. I wonder why? Could it be because Ten…uh Buffalo’s Pro Bowl left tackle, Taylor Lewan, was injured?”
He got the last part correct but not much else. Lewan was carted off earlier in the game with an injury, but he never, and has never played for the Bills in an NFL game. Broussard knows this; the clip picks him up as he starts saying “Tennessee,” but he went the opposite direction.
The Fox Sports Radio host didn’t know the right jersey for Lewan while downplaying Dawkins’s role a few moments later.
“If he’s there, maybe that doesn’t happen,” Broussard continued. “But he’s out. So you got a second-stringer that Josh Allen’s trying to go behind, and you see he got destroyed, Dawkins, whoever that is. Alright? So that’s the problem.”
Dawkins has been with the Bills since 2017 and started 65 of the 70 games he’s played in, far from a no-name backup tackle. It was an early wake-up call for Broussard, and we all make mistakes in this business, but it’s rare to see a respected national voice make a gaffe like this.
He built a take around a player on the opposite sideline and added more fuel to the fires of small-market fans who expect talking heads to know the starters on each team before rattling off opinions. Broussard did correct the error before his show mates could roast him.
