University of Georgia quarterback Stetson Bennett had his moment in the spotlight over the weekend as one of the finalists for the 2022 Heisman Trophy.

Bennett led the Bulldogs to a national championship in 2021 and was one of the four Heisman finalists invited to New York this weekend.

But FOX Sports Radio host Doug Gottlieb didn’t buy into the Stetson Bennett hype. Ahead of the announcement of the Heisman winner on Saturday night in New York City, Gottlieb made it clear he never considered Bennett a true favorite for the award.

John Kincade, who hosts on 97.5 The Fanatic in Philadelphia but previously hosted on 680 The Fan in Atlanta, was among those in sports media who had a sharp response to Gottlieb’s stance.

Gottlieb, who was the subject of controversy earlier this year over reporting on former Atlanta Braves first baseman Freddie Freeman and his free agency negotiations, had a brief back and forth with Kincade in the replies of John’s tweet.

Bennett ended up finishing in fourth place in the final Heisman voting. USC quarterback Caleb Williams was the winner.

Bennett and the Bulldogs will be taking on Ohio State in the College Football Playoff semifinals on December 31 in the Peach Bowl.
