Skip Bayless is no stranger to being roasted on the internet. Usually, it is about a wildly, hot take. On Monday, it was for a strange video he made following the Dallas Cowboys’ loss to the San Francisco 49ers in the Divisional Round of the NFL Playoffs.

In the video, Bayless can be seen stomping into his kitchen holding a Dak Prescott jersey. He holds it up to the camera before throwing it in the garbage in a huff.

“He’s just a very, very odd dude,” 670 The Score’s Dan Bernstein said on Monday in response to the video. “Now he’s the world’s biggest Cowboy fan? Now he’s waving pom poms for the Cowboys?”

Bernstein didn’t elaborate much on what it is that makes Skip Bayless so odd, but he did mention that he had first hand knowledge and insight.

“I mean, he’s a very very very strange man. I’ve hosted shows with him. He’s just odd,” Bernstein said.

His partner Laurence Holmes was surprised to learn this. Holmes asked if it was possible he may have produced one of those shows.

Bernstein said it was. He recalled a particular show they hosted together where he had to pull Bayless back from saying something he would have regretted.

“I prevented him from getting in terrible trouble for what he almost said about Daunte Culpepper and I had to step in real quick.”

While Bernstein didn’t specify what it was Skip Bayless was about to say, he did note that Bayless was hung up on how Culpepper was “different” from other quarterbacks.

“I saved his dumb ass, because he wasn’t going to say that.”

Holmes said what adds to the strangeness of Bayless’s persona is the way he seems to still be playing into his former partner’s bit. He noted that Skip Bayless has started creating content about being the world’s biggest Cowboy fan around the same time that Stephen A. Smith has made a bit out of being a notorious Cowboys hater.

“It’s a really weird dance that they’re still doing even though they’re not partners anymore,” Holmes said.

FOX NFL Sunday has won its share of acclaim. The show has taken home more than 20 Emmy Awards and in 2019 was inducted into the National Association of Broadcasters Hall of Fame. That doesn’t impress Gregg Giannotti though.

He criticized the show on Monday’s edition of Boomer and Gio on WFAN and CBS Sports Network, saying the show has largely been the same since its debut.

“If you had a VHS tape from 1995 and popped it in with that FOX pregame show, it’s almost the same exact thing!” he said. “Howie Long looks exactly the same. Terry Bradshaw’s still mumbling bumbling. They’re just standing around.”

It sounds like that standing around is what really gets under Gio’s skin. He seems to be even more frustrated by it as the cast of FOX NFL Sunday grows.

“FOX has, it looks like, a family reunion. They added Gronk and Sean Payton to the fifty guys they already have. Then they just sit there and they stand around and they sway back and forth. I don’t understand. What is that?”

Giannotti said that he feels like he has been watching the same people “loiter for like 30 years”. He suggested perhaps the predicability could be broken up by having different groups stationed in different places around the studio similar to what NBC does with the cast of Football Night in America. He would welcome anything that changes up FOX NFL Sunday.

“I know exactly what I’m gonna get from that thing every single time.”

After Nick Sirianni called out Angelo Cataldi from the podium on Saturday night, Eagles fans had to think they were in for a treat Monday when the team’s coach would make his regular appearance on 94WIP. While the visit was cordial, Sirianni came ready to defend his defensive coordinator.

“I’m very aware you’d like a piece of me here,” Angelo Cataldi said after introducing the coach.

In his postgame press conference Saturday, Nick Sirianni mentioned Cataldi by name as he railed against people criticizing defensive coordinator Jonathan Gannon throughout the season.

“I know what I said on Saturday, and that’s in good fun too,” Sirianni said on Monday morning. “I enjoy coming on this show and talking to you guys, but hey, at the end of the day too, I’m gonna stick up for my brother.”

He cited his background from an Italian family that valued loyalty amongst brothers. He also came with stats to prove the prowess of the Eagles defense under Gannon’s leadership and noted that many times, if the team makes a mistake, it is because Gannon’s play calling is trying to reflect Sirianni’s desire to play aggressive and create turnovers. He acknowledged that perhaps he deserves equal criticism in those moments.

“I want some heat. I want some smoke when you’re getting on Gannon too.”

When Cataldi pointed out that it sounded like Sirianni was stumping for his DC to become a head coach, Sirianni said that he doesn’t want to lose Jonathan Gannon, but it should be clear that he has earned that opportunity. Cataldi revealed that maybe some Eagles fans didn’t agree. He said he heard from them almost immediately on Saturday night.

“Needless to say, after you said the things you said, I got a bunch of emails from people trying to give me ammo,” he said.
