Pat McAfee: I Enjoy Hearing Tom Brady be a Human
“That is a Tom Brady I would like to listen to every single day, if that’s what the Let’s Go podcast was.”

Tom Brady is not ready to make a decision about his future. Jim Gray learned the hard way that is not just public posturing. That is the truth.
On the latest episode of the Let’s Go podcast, which also airs on SiriusXM, Brady answered Gray’s question about what his timetable for a decision is with “If I knew what I was going to f***ing do I would’ve already f***ing done it. I’m taking it a day at a time.”
On his show on Tuesday, Pat McAfee said that a fiery Tom Brady is what he wants to hear.
“That is a Tom Brady I would like to listen to every single day, if that’s what the Let’s Go podcast was,” he said. “Now, I don’t like that they bleeped him. We’re adults. It’s SiriusXM.”
McAfee added that this feels like a more authentic version of a guy who has been so careful about letting anyone get too close to him. He noted that there was an episode of Brady’s ESPN+ documentary Man in the Arena in which Mike Vrabel made the comment that Brady isn’t so perfect behind closed doors.
AQ Shipley, who makes regular appearances on McAfee’s show and played with Brady in Tampa, said that the GOAT is only the GOAT in front of the media. In the locker room, he always embraced just being one of the guys.
Pat McAfee said he has heard that a lot about Tom Brady and never really believed it.
“I just enjoyed hearing Tom being human there, because everyone that has been his teammate is like ‘you would enjoy Tom’ and I’m like ‘the guy selling that chocolate in social media videos? I don’t think so.’”
He added that last year, Brady was clearly pressured into a decision between the Buccaneers, FOX and his now-ex-wife all wanting a decision. That is probably what Brady was remembering when he fired back at Jim Gray.
“It’s almost like he’s like ‘Jim, what are you? My f***ing ex-wife, dude? I will take my f***ing time for the first time in my life. How about that?”.

Pat McAfee: Kelce Brothers Have One Of The Top 2 or 3 Shows In the World

Podcasting has democratized sports media content across multiple platforms. Now, active players have the chance to take advantage of a direct line to fans to tell their own stories. Few players are doing that better right now than the Kelce brothers according to Pat McAfee.
McAfee welcomed Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce to his show on Monday. He told Kelce that players everywhere should be paying attention to what he and his brother Jason, an offensive lineman in Philadelphia, have created.
“I want players to be rich forever and be successful, and I think every single player’s story is worth money,” McAfee said. “I think the NFLPA needs to do a better job telling everybody that more in like workshops and things like that. But your and your brother’s show is like a top two, top three show in the world right now, dude.”
The show, New Heights with Jason & Travis Kelce has experienced tremendous success. It routinely shows up on lists of the most downloaded sports podcasts on the internet. Pat McAfee says it isn’t hard to understand why.
“When you guys are chopping it up, it is so f***ing great. I’m enjoying the hell out of it.”
Kelce acknowledged that the show has been a lot of fun to put together. He says that recording sessions have become benchmarks of his week. That isn’t possible without The Pat McAfee Show.
“You guys paved the way though,” Kelce told McAfee. “You guys have been doing it the right way and gave us the confidence to want to tell our stories and eventually be able to bring in our friends.”
“Well, your show is much better than ours,” Pat McAfee fired back.

More layoffs hit Vox Media on Friday. The company laid off 7% of its workforce. That amounted to nearly 130 employees. A number of SB Nation employees took to social media to announce they were victims of the cuts.
Yup, got laid off today. Gonna miss working with all the talented folks at @secretbase but I know they'll keep kicking ass.

I've been let go by @SBNation / @voxmedia after 7+ years.

SB Nation had all-world talents throughout those years and it still does. I’m just happy to have played a small role in it.
Today I have been laid off. I always thought I would leave Vox and SB Nation of my own accord, but today they chose to move away from hockey coverage.

I don't know what is next for me, I'm a little shellshocked tbh, but here we are. Steph Driver is on the market. https://t.co/Ncg3cZzlsX

social teams do so much more than people realize. they truly have their hand in every single part of a company. invest in your social team, then trust and believe in them. https://t.co/CDuHsRlTY2
Well, to this point I've dodged the emails and calls but apparently my luck has run out. My time at Vox has come to a close.

I have been extraordinarily blessed to head the pod team @LakersSBN, a site I've helped grow into the monster it is today.

Hey fam. Kelly here. Just needed to say a couple of things. As you now know, Vox Media has decided to no longer support the existence of Broad Street Hockey. Why? Can't tell you.
— Broad Street Hockey (@BroadStHockey) January 20, 2023
I honestly don't know what this means. For the site. For our writers. For me. I don't know.
Not only are many writers and podcasters out, but Awful Announcing also reports that SB Nation’s coverage of hockey and soccer has taken major hits. Entire team sites have been gutted and/or shut down.
The Twitter account for Massive Report, an SB Nation blog covering the Columbus Crew, reports that the site is no longer hosting any MLS team blogs.
We have been made aware that VOX (which owns SB Nation) will no longer support MLS sites due to the economic climate. We are not sure what this means going forward and are working behind the scenes to figure out what's next. https://t.co/xVi7QjLkjc

Jim Bankoff, CEO of Vox Media, told staffers that the publishing industry is facing a “challenging economic environment”. The cuts are being made to adjust to those realities.
Vox Media’s union addressed the layoffs in a tweet. The organization says it is “furious at the way the company has approached these layoffs, and are currently discussing how to best serve those who just lost their jobs.”

TikTok Testing Podcast Feature
“It also isn’t clear how podcasters would be able to take advantage of TikTok’s reach with their current shows.”

TikTok wants in on podcasting. According to Business Insider, the app is going about things very differently from competitors in the social media space.
Facebook and Twitter failed to gain traction by adding traditional podcasts to their platforms. TikTok is testing a feature that would allow users to experience content on the app as audio-only.
Video is at the core of TikTok’s appeal. It is hard to see how offering the content in an audio-only mode appeals to the average user. It also isn’t clear how podcasters would be able to take advantage of TikTok’s reach with their current shows.
Every iteration of media struggles with attracting a younger audience. If podcasters can crack the code, TikTok could be what opens up a whole new audience to them. While more than a third of Americans use TikTok, an Edison Research study found that 61% of Americans between the ages of 12 and 34 use the app regularly.
While many sports entities have relationships with TikTok, what they currently put on the app isn’t necessarily designed to be consumed as audio only. If TikTok podcasts catch on, it could open up a whole new world of content creation for sports brands.
