Is the 2023-24 season for Texas and Oklahoma their last as members of the Big 12? It’s possible.

But if there’s going to be an agreement on the two schools making the transition to the SEC a year early, both the Sooners and Longhorns would be subject to exit fees and forfeiture of their media rights distribution money for 2024-25. That’s according to reporting from Dennis Dodd at CBS Sports.

FOX would also need to be compensated for Oklahoma and Texas bailing on the final year of the Big 12’s current media rights deal. It’s been reported that part of that compensation could include the Sooners and Longhorns playing Big 12 opponents on the road in non-conference games once they’ve joined the SEC.

A portion of the money paid back to the conference for an early exit would go back to Baylor, Iowa State, Kansas, Kansas State, Oklahoma State, TCU, Texas Tech and West Virginia, which saw a 19% cut ($16 million) in their media money over the next two years as part of bringing in BYU, Cincinnati, Houston and UCF as members starting this year. Big 12 schools receive 42.6 million annually under the current deal.

The conference begins a new media rights deal in 2025-26.

LIV Golf has a TV home on The CW for its upcoming 2023 season, which tees off in Mexico on February 24.

The deal was announced January 19. The CW will carry all LIV events over the next two years, with an option for a third year based on viewership. That’s according to John Ourand of the Sports Business Journal.

Local CW affiliates do have an option to not carry LIV Golf coverage. Ourand reported that many local stations aren’t keen on shying away from its regular schedule of syndicated programming in favor of golf.

If ratings are a priority for LIV Golf, then the CW will have to work out a deal with Nielsen. Currently, the company only monitors the CW for two hours in prime time everyday.

Mike Francesa says his inbox has been flooded with questions about him joining Chris “Mad Dog” Russo and Stephen A. Smith on First Take. On his podcast Tuesday, the Sports Pope said that it is true and the details have been confirmed.

“That is true,” Francesa said. “I have agreed to make an appearance with those two and I will be there in studio with them on February 1.”

His announcement comes less than a week after Russo made the announcement on his SiriusXM radio show. The way Russo announced the date led some to wonder if all of the details were confirmed.

Things have moved fairly quickly with the reunion. While rumors of a Mike Francesa appearance on First Take have been swirling since Chris Russo joined the show’s rotating panel of co-hosts, it was last week that things were kicked into overdrive.

Stephen A. Smith got the ball rolling last Wednesday on The Howard Stern when he revealed that his plan was to stage a Mike and the Mad Dog reunion.
